Move over Orange County, Falcon Beach is the new hot spot. With a sexy cast, Winnipeg is feeling some heat, and so is your television screens on Thursday nights.
"Basically it's a summer show about relationships and you know the turmoil, that everybody goes through in the summer. Every city sort of has a place where everybody goes to get away from the city life. Just to party and meet new people, and you know meeting new people you end up with love and turmoil," says Toronto native Steve Byers, who plays heart throb Jason Tanner.
“ I don’t want to ruin anything, but I will say that there’s definitely a lot of relationships that develop, I think people will be surprised and there’s some characters that come in and throw those relationships for a huge loop. I think the end will really be a show stopper.”
The rest of the young cast includes Jennifer Kydd as the ambitious blonde Paige Bradshaw, wild girl turned model Tanya Shedden, played by Devon Weigel, bad boy Lane Bradshaw, played by Morgan Kelly, former "Degrassi" guest star Ephraim Ellis as Danny Ellis, and Melissa Elias as Erin Haddad, the fun loving lifeguard.
“ I think you know as an actor you try and find in any part something that’s both unique, but also that you can relate to you yourself also and with Jason, there’s a lot that I can say is me, but its fun to have pieces of Jason that I would never do and I’ll leave that up for the people who decide what that might be."
While on the beach, Wake Boarding is featured many times during the 13 episodes of the show, and although Byers is used to boating, this came into new territory.
“ I had a lot of experience behind boats. We used to always go up to Muskoka (Northern Ontario). My family has a cottage up there. Every summer we would go up, and do the boat thing. Wake boarding is still a new sport for a lot of people.
I kind of hope the show will bring sort of a new audience to it too, because it is featured a lot in the show , and I think there’s so many really great riders that we had teaching us. That it’d be awesome they got some exposure because it’s a real phenomenal sport.”
If you feel like you have seen Falcon Beach before, you just might have seen the 2 hour movie that aired on Global in 2005.
“They did this thing that they call a back door pilot, it’s basically they do a movie and they’ve already pitched it to a couple of networks to see how they decide, if they get good numbers then they say 'well, lets see what we can do to develop this further' and we were lucky enough to have a good response to the show, and they decided to make 13 one hour episodes.”
